South Beach Diet Phase Two

South Beach Diet Phase Two begins with week two of the diet. During the beginning of phase two, you begin to enjoy eating fruit again since you were not allowed any fruit during phase one.

Phase Two allows one serving of fruit per day however; you can have bananas, canned fruit, any fruit juices, pineapple, raisins, or watermelon. You can include 1 ½ cups of dairy per day. Along with this, you can still have fat free or low fat milk and yogurt but no ice cream. Starches you can have during week two of the South Beach Diet include on serving a day such as whole grain or multigrain breads, high fiber cereals, whole wheat pasta, pita, popcorn, sweet potatoes, brown and wild rice. You should not have white breads, rolls, cookies, potatoes, white rice. Vegetables are allowed except for beets, carrots, corn, potatoes. You should have ½ cup with breakfast, 2 cups with lunch, and 2 cups at dinner. You may also enjoy them as a snack. As for treats, you may a glass of red wine, a bittersweet or semisweet chocolate treat but a very small one.

South Beach Diet Phase Two, week three you can add a serving of carbohydrate food every day if you do not notice you are gaining weight. Low carb breads are usually the best choice.

During week four of Phase Two, many people add another carb; however, you should be very careful, as some people tend to start gaining weight the more carbs they start enjoying.

By the beginning of week five of the South Beach Diet Phase Two you should be enjoying 2 or 3 servings of fruit, 2 or 3 servings of starches or grains, and 2 or 3 servings of dairy each day. You should also have 2 cups of vegetables and one serving of protein for lunch and dinner.

Week six is the last week of the South Beach Diet Phase Two and you should have gradually progressed to have 3 servings of fruits and 3 servings of grains or starches in your day. If you are not noticing any weight loss or are being to gain the weight you lost, you can substitute more non-starchy vegetables into your diet. If you are still losing weight, you will need to keep up the good work until you have achieved your weight goal before going on to phase three.
